Recommended by Resonate Architects and appointed by contractors ISG, Signbox played a crucial role in the renovation of the entrance and the ground floor reception of this multi-tenanted building. The brief from client Aberdeen Asset Management, was to refresh the entrance exterior, giving it more presence and helping it to stand out in its busy, iconic location. Signbox’s preliminary work on the project began in February 2017, the installation commenced in May, and was completed within a month.
Inside the lobby, Signbox responded to the architect’s brief by developing and installing the oversized LED-lit numerals ‘165’. Set behind vertical bronze slats and a visitor seating area, this sign, visible from the street, emphasises the building’s brand as well as helping to create an inviting environment for tenants and visitors alike. Signbox also produced textured acrylic panels for a backlit feature wall in the lobby. Printed in-house, with a bronze translucent finish, on Signbox’s Durst P10-160, it forms a key component among the warm, rich, copper tones of the new interior. Finally, Signbox designed and created a stylish, bespoke glass directory for the reception area.
Andrew O’Hara, Senior Project Manager at Signbox, explains how the company overcame challenges on the dual interior and exterior elements of the project: “We were tasked with installing a uniform, fabricated aluminium dressing in the recessed, two-storey-high entrance-way. The busy Fleet Street location proved an obstacle here as there was limited access and restricted hours in which to work. The dressing was created in 10swg aluminium and installed over a fabricated framework. We installed a white LED-infused flexi strip along the edge of cladding, accenting the height of the doorway and adding to the overall effect. The end result is a striking and imposing entrance, befitting the building’s prestigious location and the high-profile tenants it houses.”
Signbox’s work in the lobby area of the building presented challenges of its own, O’Hara explains: “We were working with the architects and various subcontractors each tasked with delivering specific aspects of the project that needed to fit together seamlessly to deliver a modern, welcoming space. Our own contributions to this: the acrylic panelled feature wall and the bespoke, glass tenant directory ultimately fitted together seamlessly with elements delivered by other suppliers, while the oversized ‘165’ LED numerals served to link everything together and to reinforce the building’s brand.”
