Art Deco Architectural Signage

Case Study: Art Deco Architectural Signage for 2 Upper Street

Overview

2 Upper Street, a prestigious property known for its historical significance and architectural grandeur, recently underwent a significant external and internal signage project. Working alongside principle contractor Scott Osborn, this project encompassed the design, fabrication, and installation of bespoke art deco style architectural signage. The scope included both external vertical façade signage and various internal signs, ensuring a cohesive and visually appealing aesthetic throughout the property.

Project Scope and Specifications

External Signage

  • Design and Fabrication: We supplied the art deco style architectural feature façade and external entrance signage. This stylish design was bespoke, manufactured from fabricated PPC aluminium sign trays with stencil cut vertical features. These sections were reinforced and backed with a specialist gold PVD mesh finish, designed to prevent objects or litter from infilling the recess and looking unsightly.
  • Technical Challenges: The installation required accurate surveys of the complete existing vertical aperture and detailed measurements for all of the stacked vertical 3.5m high sign trays. The trays featured secret fixing points to allow for their positioning to remain flush with the building façade, which varied in many areas.
  • Installation: This required precision and meticulous attention to detail to ensure the signage was both secure and aesthetically pleasing.
  • Outcome: The overall finish and installation were of a very high standard, seamlessly blending with the architectural aesthetics of the building. The bespoke signage not only enhanced the building’s façade but also contributed to the property’s elegant and timeless look.

Internal Signage

  • Following the successful installation of the external signage, we were awarded the contract for all internal signage for the project.
  • Design and Fabrication: The internal signage maintained the art deco aesthetic, ensuring a consistent design language throughout the property. This included directional signs, room identifiers, and informational plaques, all designed to complement the building’s interior design.
  • Installation: Our team ensured that the internal signage was installed to the same high standards as the external signage, with attention to detail and quality craftsmanship throughout.

Challenges and Solutions

  • Precision in Measurements: The varying dimensions of the building’s façade required extremely accurate surveys and measurements. Our team utilised advanced surveying tools and techniques to ensure precision.
  • Secret Fixings: Ensuring the sign trays were flush with the façade and securely fixed without visible fixings presented a challenge. We developed a bespoke fixing solution that allowed for a clean, seamless installation.

Results and Client Satisfaction

The successful completion of the signage project for 2 Upper Street was met with high praise from the client. The external signage added a striking yet harmonious feature to the building’s exterior, while the internal signage provided clear and stylish navigation aids for visitors. The project demonstrated our capability to deliver bespoke, high-quality signage solutions that enhance and complement the architectural features of a building.

Conclusion

The 2 Upper Street project exemplifies our expertise in creating and installing bespoke signage solutions that meet both aesthetic and functional requirements. Our ability to overcome technical challenges and deliver a high standard of workmanship has reinforced our reputation as a leading provider of architectural signage. We look forward to undertaking similar projects in the future, where we can continue to showcase our commitment to quality and design excellence
